Writer Bio
I was born on a US Navy base in Japan in the last year the United States had 48 states.
I grew up in downtown San Francisco in the 1960's, and watched the Summer of Love turn into the Days of Rage.
Escape from San Francisco took me south to Ventura county and a small town called Camarillo, graduating from high school in 1977.
In 1981, I graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a degree in Engineering and History (an odd juxtaposition).
Service in the navy took me across the world, seeing and experiencing firsthand the people and cultures that I had only read about in other people's works and journals...but this is a story for another time.
I retired in 2010, and began a new journey to become a Science Fiction writer.
Writing Style
I emphasize the science in the fiction. This is a reflection of the science fiction writers I grew up reading voraciously starting in the late 1960's: Verne, Wells, Lovecraft, Sturgeon, Heinlein, Clarke, Bradbury, Miller, Vonnegut, Simak, Silverberg, Herbert, Zelazny, (I'm basically reciting from my bookshelf), Farmer, Ellison, Delany, LeGuin, Spinrad, Brunner, Ballard, Harrison, Dick, Niven, Smith, Bester, Kuttner, Pohl, Wilhelm, Piper, Leiber, Anderson, Van Vogt, Bradley, Lem, Haldeman, Disch, Wolfe, Card, Brin, Bear, Cherryh, Laumer, Gibson, and GRR Martin (the early stuff)...to name a few./////I've also been greatly influenced by classic literature and history: Thucydides, Herodotus, Heraclitus, Tacitus, Homer, Epictetus, Xenophon, Icelandic Sagas, Noh and supernatural Japanese monogataris, Melville, Joyce, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Pynchon, Borges, Marquez, Orwell, Kafka, Conrad, Dickens, Poe, Bierce, and of course George Eliot who wrote Middlemarch....again from the bookshelf./////
With so many influences, I am still evolving as a writer.
