Writer Bio
The Clarion Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) charitable status. It was established in the autumn of 2005 to ensure that, regardless of economic ups and downs, the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Workshop (now located at UCSD) will continue to function at the same high level of excellence that has made it one of the oldest and most acclaimed writing workshops in the country. The Foundation provides an online support community for Clarion supporters and alumni, and does many kinds of fundraising to support the ongoing work of educating aspiring writers of science fiction and fantasy.
Writing Style
High quality. Cutting-edge. Well worth reading.
Writing Goal
We're leaving the writing to our Clarion students and our dedicated Write-a-Thon writers.
Fundraising Goal
In the words of the Foundation's President, Karen Joy Fowler, our financial needs deepen each year like the coastal shelf. Our costs at UC San Diego increase as the California State Legislature continues to cut funding to the UC system. It now costs almost $5,000 for a student to attend the Clarion Workshop. Even so, tuition only pays about half of our costs, and most students need scholarship help. Altogether, we need to raise about $40,000 each year through grants and donations. Please help!
