What is The Write-a-Thon?
The Write-a-Thon is the annual six-week fundraiser to support the Clarion Workshop, a long-running writing workshop that is currently based out of UC San Diego. For more than fifty years, writers of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and all other genre fiction have attended Clarion to hone their craft and sharpen their skills. In 2006, the Clarion Foundation was created in order to support the workshop through fundraising and other community-building activities. In 2009, the Write-a-Thon was started as a way to ensure that financial burden is not a barrier for accepted students to attend the workshop.
The Write-a-Thon is like a Walk-a-Thon, except instead of walking, our volunteers write or edit towards their goals. Friends, family, and fans can support their favorite authors through donations or pledges based on their goals. The Write-a-Thon allows us to build community and have productive writing summers, while ensuring the workshop continues to thrive for years to come!
